Pi gateway using Moteino and Pi 2 in one case

My partner and I decided to upgrade our Pi gateway from the original Pi to the Pi 2 with the nice raspberry case.  My partner designed the hardware and mounted the Moteino inside the Pi case.  The Moteino draws 5v from the Pi so there are no extra cables required.  I loaded Felix's gateway code and everything works great.  I also loaded the Blynk server code on the Pi and since the two apps use different ports we can run both apps simultaneously.

We are currently using the Blynk app on our mobile phones to control an ESP8266 which in turns controls outlets on a plug box with a relay.

Attached are a couple of pictures showing how nicely the Moteino fits inside the Pi case.

Syrinxtec,

What kind of shield or daughter board is that you mounted the Moteino R4 to?

If you connected a Moteino Powershield on some dead pins with a LiPo battery you'd be set.

Very cool, very compact.

LaneF,

We used a 2 x 1.34" double sided pc board and mounted a dual female header to the edge.  The Moteino was soldered directly to the pc board to minimize height.  We only soldered the pins we needed which were ground, vin(5 volts from Pi),tx and rx.  A slide switch was added between Moteino rx and Pi tx for Moteino programming.

Thanks Felix.  My partner, BBF, did all the h/w and I usually handle the s/w.

He made a really cool ESP8266 programmer as well.  Picture attached.
