Moteino controlled anemometer

Has anyone used a moteino to have an anemometer report back to the Gateway? I've got a couple of Weathershields but no way to remotely measure wind speed. Unfortunately I'm not quite as tech savvy as most of y'all on the code end.  Just wondering if anyone had done this already?

Felix

Sorry for the no-answer, I know several people have done it but I dont have sample code and haven't done it myself.
Did you try this? Is it hard to interface to the sensor for some reason or did you just want to see if there's code out there already?

Perhaps this is useful:  https://pastebin.com/yBq6Ca8x

My anemometer produces two pulses per rotation.  I finally had to calibrate it by driving and holding it out the window.  My theory for how many pulses would be produced per kph of wind was not as accurate as the old empirical method.  This sketch is good to at least 120kph.

i haven't attempted it yet. I was just wondering if there was code already out there before I jump off into a project ::)

Both my business partner and I have both done it.  We have worked with two different anenometers, one of which is from Adafruit.  The only problem with the Adafruit required a min of 7v which meant we had to use a voltage booster.  We also used another model from SwitchDoc Labs ($74 through Amazon) which added wind speed, wind direction and rain.  This unit runs on 5v.  My unit interfaces through lots of custom code and a base station.  My partner uses a Moteino to gather the data outside and sends it to a Moteino in the house.  The inside Moteino connects serially to a Pi which then runs Felix's code to display the data.  You can the output of my weather station (including wind and rain) here:

The unit from SwitchDoc Labs uses reed switches to perform it's magic so there are no electronic parts per se.

One more thing.....I have written extensively about our outdoor unit....including pics.

Check it out if you want more info.....

after looking through all of this, i have a couple more questions.

1. i'm not familiar with sparkcore. it appears this is wifi to connect directly to the internet. if i use this, i don't connect to a gateway pi, is that correct (it connects directly to the internet)? If i connect to my gateway moteino/pi, can i omit the sparkcore?

2. if i go with the SwitchDoc labs anemometer, I believe you said it uses Felix's code? Does it show up on the Gateway with the other LowPowerLab items such as the SumpAlert and other WeatherMotes?

3. Using the SwitchDoc labs anemometer, is the link to the code for the remote and gateway in one of your previous posts or did I miss it?

If i'm correct that the SparkCore connects directly to the internet, I may go that route.

1.  There are three members of the Spark family....the Core is the one I used for this project.  It uses built-in Wifi to access the Internet.  Yes, if you connect to the PI/Moteino using Serial, Ethernet, etc., you do not need the Spark.

2.  It doesn't use Felix's code per se, but it will work with Felix's gateway.  You have to do some basic Moteino work to read the anenometer output and then use the Moteino to send the data to the PI gateway.  Yes, it will show up as a node on the gateway software.

3.  No, I haven't posted code since I don't use Felix's gateway/PI.  My code is all custom written and in total, adds up to about 15K lines of code.

4.  If you're using the PI, I would certainly go with Felix's gateway software.  It is well-written and offers a lot of features.  Plus, he's done the hard part of integration and there is a lot of good documentation.

Kilo95,

The attached screen captures show the integration of the Switchdoc products with Felix's GW.

Thatțs a pretty cool node, lots of metrics :)

Felix

syrinxtech,
Would you like to share this and your keurig node icons?

syrinxtech

Are these the ones you want?

i like how you have it all worked out. i dont think i'm quite savvy enough with code to get the anemometer and rain gauge to talk with the Moteino by writing my own code. this winter, once things settle down, maybe i can try
