Where to get low profile female header sockets?

Hi

Does anyone have a source, or part number for low profile female pcb sockets. 2.54mm pitch.

The ones i have are 8mm high, when I have seen some that are around half this height.

I need 14 pins or more.

Ideally UK, or cheap shipping to the UK.  I found some on RS, however they were $4 each...

I only need a few.  Massive minimum order numbers not helpful.

Anyone any ideas?

I don't know that they make them any lower.. the male pins would also have to be shorter.  How about machine headers;

Tried those.  They do not fit my IC or other board.  The do not take square male pins.

They are really hard to source, I only found 1 vendor on ebay, but they are fine, only in 40pin, but it's easy to cut

Good idea.  tried those.  The force to get normal pins into those is fierce.

But as I can control the male end on one project, this gives me an idea!

Check out adafruit. Search for short female header. They are 5mm vs 8mm.
