Does anyone know if a Moteino with a trace antenna takes a transceiver with a lora pinout (RFM69HCW) please?

It does not, only W, CW and HW.

Just out of interest - any reason it is limited to non-lora print transceivers?

Mainly because LoRa radios would benefit more from an external directional antenna.
One thing I had in mind was a little thin breakout to mount LoRa radios and make them solderable to RFM69W/HW footprints.
