RSSI jumps on receiving node in 1.5.0.

Hi,

I have a setup with 2 RMF69 HCW units. One is sending, the other is receiving. The units are 1m apart from each other. With this setup running LPL lib 1.4.3, the rssi reported by each unit is pretty stable between -27 to -30.

After an upgrade of the LPL lib from 1.4.3 to 1.5.0, the RECEIVING unit is reporting big jumps in the rssi between subsequent received messages. The rssi ranges between -36 to -102.

I save the rssi right after a packet is received:

if (radio.receiveDone()) {
    arssi = radio.RSSI;
    Serial1.println(arssi);

Once I change RF_PACKET2_AUTORXRESTART_OFF to RF_PACKET2_AUTORXRESTART_ON in ONFIG[][2] in RFM69.cpp on the RECEIVING node, it starts reporting the normal RSSI of -27 to -30. Changing this parameter on the SENDING node has no effect on this behavior.

The change was introduced in 1.5.0: https://github.com/LowPowerLab/RFM69/compare/1.4.3...1.5.0?diff=unified&w=#diff-014dd4bac6673722074c63e4430f7d728697d6bd8f028908558e1ca09b147cacR103

This behavior does not seem to affect the transmission quality, but I can no longer see what is the 'real' rssi, as it jumps in a big range.

Upgrading any or both SENDING and RECEIVING nodes to LPL lib 1.5.1, 1.5.2 or master does not help.

Someone else is experiencing this?

Thanks,
PJ

Felix

Thanks for reporting, I will investigate when I have a chance and if there's a problem I will release a patch to the library.
