RMF69hw and Arduino Due
« on: May 18, 2014, 12:00:53 PM »
First time posting here. I just found the Moteino. I really like it but it's limited on I/O. Anyone have plans to get the library working with the Due? I'm in the planning stage of a project with about 15 to 17 nodes and  one master node with Ethernet (maybe Raspberry Pi). I did find http://boredomprojects.net/index.php/projects/home-energy-monitor#h3-1-2-rfm12b-library-for-arduino-due . But I thought, I read somewhere RFM12b and RMF69HW use a different libraries. Am I wrong on that? I could use I/O expanders with I2C. But it would be nice to minimize the number of chips used. The Due has more than enough I/O. Maybe Moteino needs a big brother.
Thanks

Felix

There are several libraries out there. Generally it makes little sense to try to mix RFM12B and RFM69, mainly because of RFM12Bs limitations. They can talk to each other as some people demonstrated, but I recommend going with either or, preferrably RFM69.
Moteino is in the search for a big brother, that should meet bigger needs. Hopefully things work out and will have one soon.

from what i understand the ATSAM3X8E microcontroller has a bootloader burned at the Atmel factory? there is a programmer used for the Taijiuno Due on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Taijiuino-Due-Programmer-Downloader-Compatible-Arduino-Pro-/281091047083?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item417254feab for $10.00 + 3.90 shipping.  I'd prototype the PCB but, porting the library would take me to long. I could do it but it would just take me forever. I'm not the strongest programmer.

The problem is the majority of people are having a problem driving a regular plane, introducing a space shuttle will be even more problematic, more so for me. I think you understand...
The big brother will need to be a simple platform and as compatible as possible with the current one.

i thought about it some more. i don't think someone using a due like board is going to be worried about having the smallest possible form factor. Making a breadboard-able due would be about 5 inches long (i'd worry about breaking it taking it off the breadboard), and here is something else http://www.ebay.com/itm/221441554812?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 . "buy it now" with shipping for under 15 bucks. Maybe a RMF69HW shield would be a better idea. There would be a lot of room for other goodies too.

Small is a big reason behind Moteino. And yes you can buy Arduinos on ebay from $2 to $15, but they are fakes with fake silicon. Cheap always costs more in the long run ;)
