RFM69HW & LoRa modules
« on: March 04, 2016, 02:37:22 PM »
I have been away from lowpowerlab a some time now and am designing a board that needs a low power radio. I would like to use Monteino for the host side and a RFM69HW on the remote. Some questions:

1. What are my options at 915MHz for low power operation.
2. What are my options at 915MHz for max range?
3. Are all RFM69 variants the same footprint?
4. Is the LoRa module footprint compatible with the RFM69HW?
5. Are RFM69HW compatible with RFM69HCW?
6. I need to be water tight with antenna protruding thru top of case.
    May get splashed on.

Thanks,
  George

1. What are my options at 915MHz for low power operation.
All radios I offer are available in 915mhz and are low power, of course how you use them will influence how low power they are.

No.
4. Is the LoRa module footprint compatible with the RFM69HW?
No.
5. Are RFM69HW compatible with RFM69HCW?
No. Update: yes they are from a firmware standpoint. They are the same thing. But different in terms of module pinout/layout.

Some discussions here in the forum about water proofing, here's one.

By RFM69HW & RRM69CW compatibility I meant radio data interface, not PCB footprint.

Oops I misread that, I updated my comment. All RFM69 can talk between them and are library/firmware compatible, although you have to mind the H prefixed modules are 20dBm output power (unlike the C and W modules: 13dBm).
