Title: 433mhz vs 915mhz range
Post by: Kilo95 on August 24, 2015, 06:11:41 PM
I apologize if this was already posted somewhere. I couldn't find it. Wouldn't the 433 MHz moteino have better range indoors than the 915mhz (transmitting through walls)? I have a couple floors to go through. Thanks

Yeah lots of discussions on this topic all around the forum and this website.
Basically HW-915mhz should do just fine. If you're talking thick reinforced conrete that's where you might need to tweak the settings. But if you're talking typical residential settings it should be fine. I don't think 433mhz will have a lot of extra leverage in terms of obstacle penetration.
I use 915mhz for all my Moteinos, my best example is the mailbox Moteino which is about 120ft away and it is received pretty strong (-80dBm-ish) down into my basement which is across the street below ground level, even if there's 2 feet of snow on top of the ground too. So lots of dirt and obstacles in between and it's working great. That's no guarantee for all settings but just for comparison sake...

Ok. Thanks. I just wanted to be well educated or at least educated enough to order the proper one for my scenario the first time. :)
