Title: Powering sprinkler valves with a moteino (how to question)
Post by: xavier on January 22, 2017, 08:06:46 PM
hey there,

Spring is almost here and I'd like to upgrade my sprinkler controller as Felix did a couple years ago (https://lowpowerlab.com/2015/08/31/sprinkler-controller-automation/) - unfortunately my current system is a hunter with 30 zones and it seems I can't just plug into the existing system (or so I think).

In all cases I saw the following board which is an extension to the openSprikler board:
https://github.com/rayshobby/opensprinkler/blob/master/Expansion%20Board/exp20.png

I thought I could get one of the board and have a moteino plug into the EXTIN jumper but there is something I'm not sure I understand

When looking at the main board (https://github.com/rayshobby/opensprinkler/blob/master/OpenSprinkler%20Pi/hardware/ospi_v143%2B.png) I see the power part, but that seems to just convert the 24AC to 5V DC for the PI and circuit if I got this correctly.

so to my question:
- if I get a 24VAC Power supply and a boost converter something like what Felix sales a 24VA to 5V boost converter step down
=> can I just connect VCC 5V  from the converter to moteino and the VCC of the extension board? and GND from the power supply to the GND of the ext board?

would that work?

thanks in advance for any advice suggestion you may have!

X

30 zones?!  That is an impressive amount of granularity unless you're watering 20 acres!  Sorry no help on your actual question.

Maybe my water pressure is not that great, maybe my controller is 30 zones and im not using all of them, maybe both ;-)
