Hi There,

Brand new to Moteinos and very interested and impressed with what I've read.

I have an existing home automation system (LinuxMCE) and am interested in adding support for moteino-based sensors, particularly an I2C soil moisture-sensing device (https://www.creatroninc.com/product/sht11-soil-moisture-temperature-sensor/) I got my hands on. The Pi Gateway project appears to have some of what I'll need to make this happen, and I'm just getting started diving into the info here.

I'm fairly comfortable with Linux and have some Python (plus a variety of languages useless in this context) but javascript and programming to support device-to-device communication are mostly foreign to me. I saw some serial comms functions in gateway.js that went right over my head. I'm hoping my stubborn persistence (and just maybe my ECE degree) will get me past this!

I'm obviously on my own in terms of integrating my particular sensor with the far-end moteinos, and with ingesting data on the rpi into LinuxMCE, but I have a feeling i'll be asking for pointers to tutorials, or easy-to-follow examples on how to access data on the gateway moteino from the rpi via serial... we'll see how things go.

For the time being I'm just hoping someone will stop me if I'm barking up the wrong tree with this project and send me on a better path if there is one, before i invest too much time.

Cheers,

Dave
