Ignoring transmissions with no metrics

I'm running my gateway in promiscuous mode.  Is there a setting in metrics file to ignore transmissions that don't have any useful metric data?  Must be something simple I'm missing....
I'm randomly picking up transmissions from unknown sources once every few days or so...

Anyway for now as a workaround I added check for data pocket if it doesn't contain any known string (I check 1st character) than it ignores it and doesn't output anything to RPi...

Inside recieveData()
if (!checkSender()) return; // Check if sender's header doesn't match know values and exit if so

boolean checkSender () {
  if ( (buffer[0]!='B') && (buffer[0]!='M') ) {
    Serial.println ("Unkown sender");
    return false;
  }
  else return true;
}

P.S. You might want to remove
Serial.println ("Unkown sender");
as it will send junk to Pi :)

In the next release that I am preparing, there will be a setting which will allow you to disable generating empty nodes when there is no metric match. By default this will be left TRUE because I find it useful a lot of times, especially when creating a new node type.

Hi Felix that will be handy.
At home I have a node with some of the metrics that are irrelevant and I want to not monitor or see it in the nodesdetail page neither pin or log it.
If I delete it, then the next time this node reports, the deleted metric shows up again.
Any way to make this deleted metric go away forever? Other than to hack the node .
That would pose the question of; can one add a metric onto a node then manually ?:)

Thanx

Well ... sure .. uplug it :)
With the current version of the gateway, you can ignore nodes that dont have matching metrics. Otherwise they will show up. If you want them to stop showing up, move them to a different network ID or something along those lines.
