Just got a MoteinoMEGA, upgraded the arduino IDE to latest version. Had to install the FDTI driver manually, it is recognized, Windows 7 says it's working. When I try to download any sketch, I get a timeout error. What did I miss?

What's the target board?
Did you also install the Moteino core?
Any other board you have with an FTDI chip/USB interface to upload to and compare?

Some more thoughts:

I do test all units and actually upload code to them to check TX/RX. That gives me pretty high confidence I am shipping a good product.
I would suggest trying a divide and conquer approach, try eliminating possible issues.
Poor USB cables or flimsy USB connections can be a problem.

Make sure to visit this page: https://lowpowerlab.com/guide/moteino/programming-libraries/
I also suggest trying the older IDE 1.0.6 which I keep a ZIP of here for convenience: https://lowpowerlab.com/guide/moteino-programming/arduinoide/

If the driver was installed correctly, then you should be able to open a serial monitor from the IDE when the MoteinoUSB is connected.

With much appreciated help from the moderator, I fixed the problem. Actually two problems. I am using the Arduino 1.8.1 IDE. Had to do a cold restart with Windows7 (NOT a reboot). Reinstalled the just prior to current FTDI driver. All is well.

Thank you for the update, glad you solved it.
