TQFP or PDIP?
« on: October 11, 2018, 06:01:22 PM »
I'm having a go at making my own mega pcb. Would there be any gotchas that I should know about if I use a pdip chip instead of tqfp?
Would the procedure and files for uploading the boot loader be the same?
I'm new to electronics and I'd prefer to use a pdip chip as it's easier to solder the ic socket and I can yank it out if anything bad happens to it.
Thanks :-)

No difference except you'll end up having a larger board.
I would not be afraid of using an SMD chip, it's not that easy to damage an ATMEGA.

Thanks Felix, I decided to stick with buying the boards from you and adding them to my own PCB as a daughter board.
This will keep it modular, easier to troubleshoot and doesn't really cost any extra  :)
