Moteino and ethernet?

I've seen some posts on here about Moteino Mega and Ethernet but they're a few years old now. Is anyone still doing Moteino with Ethernet? I had my eyes on the ENCJ2860 but it seems it's not available any longer.

I could do a Raspberry Pi, but I'm looking to have something "all in one" and hands-free once completed - without having to manage apt-get updates on a Pi every so often.

Curious if anyone knows what the 2018 options are?

I've done many lmgtfy, but thought I'd ask here before making a purchase.. (and there were some concerns about the pins Ethernet would use vs. those of the RFM69?)

The only pins that would be an issue are those used by the hardware on the Moteino board and these are documented on the LPL site.   Note that the SPI pins (SCK, MOSI, MISO) are shared by all SPI devices so, by definition, don't conflict.  It's only the CS/SS pins for each of the SPI devices that need to be unique.

It is true that some shields, if direct wired to an Arduino board, would use SS pins that would conflict with Moteino usage and, consequently, early Ethernet Drivers hard coded the SS pin, but that problem went away around IDE version 1.5.8, I believe.

They do need to be protected using transaction accesses, it's important that an SPI access for one device is not interrupted by the other or vice versa.

Mark.

Yeah, that feature went into the Arduino Ethernet driver in 1.5.8 (or 1.5.7) although the LPL library took a bit longer to incorporate SPI transactions into its code.  I probably misspoke about the SS pin being programmable in that version, it must have been in an earlier version.
