Mega that receives but will not send. [Solved: check IS_RFM69HW setting !!!]

I was playing around with a pair of moteinos. One mega and one regular flavor @ 433Mhz. I was using the struct send receive from the Github repo.

When I have the regular as sender the mega will receive the message, but the regular does not receive back an ACK. If I reverse the setup and the mega sends the regular will not receive the message. I have two regulars and those will send and receive with no issue using the same code. So that makes some sense on why in the first setup I don't get back an ACK. but if the radio is dead on the mega... I should not receive anything.... Right

Thoughts? Wrong frequency Mega? It has the gold dot.

What exact RF modules are you using W? HW?
What is your IS_RFM69HW setting?
All moteinos get tested for TX/RX before they are shipped, so you have received a tested unit to begin with. You only need to solder antennas before using them or might risk damaging the RF chips if you use them extensively without antennas.

I have the W versions and I'm 99% sure that the HW define is commented out I don't own any HW versions at this point. I will check when I get home. The first thing I did prior to powering it up was put the antenna on.

It seems strange that it will receive messages.

BTW: Great hardware and firmware. A big thank you and the community you started!

Hard to pinpoint exactly what's going on without having the unit to debug. Sounds like it's not a code issue but more like the MEGA has some TX problem. Double check the settings match the hardware. Make sure the radios are of the same type, same frequency and all that. I can always take a look at it if you want to send it back.

Well thanks to TomWS for the answer. I had not had the time to check on few things and a post on a similar sounding problem gave me the answer. I got hit with the w vs HW. I was 100% confident that I didn't order high power modules... well a quick check of the invoice proved me wrong. ::) They are high power modules and now I have two way communication.

It would be nice if there was an identification mark as I have some that are not high power modules.

Felix, thank you for offering to look at the modules! and thanks for the great product.
Best,

Yep, its one of the most common mistakes.
I put a transceiver guide together a long time ago to make it more obvious what the differences are and it's on the Moteino.com page.
