Title: Wire up other RFM69 DIOs?
Post by: papadeltasierra on October 09, 2017, 04:55:24 AM
Are there any plans for future Moteinos to wire up the other RFM69 DIOs?  I ask because I am trying to create a 'poor mans sniffer' as I try to capture signals from my water meter and I see that with the existing set up, I believe only DIO-zero is exposed so I can't, for example, use the 'packet, unlimited' most (which I understand is essentially not really packeted, but buffered using the FIFO).
I don't know how many others might use this but I might have to do a little patching of my own...

No plans. The Moteino mega has some convenient pads on the bottom where you can wire some extra DIOs (solder jumpers), but the main reason why hard wiring was not added is that "nobody" uses them and they use need the atmega GPIOs for other things. Also, the only other hardware interrupt is D3 and there would be a debate which DIO to wire it to.
And also, those in edge cases like you where you want to experiment with, you can just solder some hookup wire from the DIO of choice to the GPIO of choice.. easy as that.

Moteino is a very generic design that meets 99% of people's needs to prototype with the supported radios, while not obstructing most of the atmega328ps functions and available GPIOs.
