RFM69W RSSI inconsistent

Hi,  I have been logging the RSSI of one RFM69 receiving from another on my desktop.

They just sit there.  There was no any movement or interference.

What I found out was that the RSSI flutuates from -65 to -45, while they are about 14" apart. See screen capture below..

Why?  How do I make it consistent in such static situation?  Will elongate the antenna do the job?

I has using the 1/4 length antenna supplied by Felix.

Thank you.

I read higher values when they're a few meters apart so something might be off with your setup. I'd probably verify the soldering of the antenna or interference sources like a noisy USB connection. You may have RF interference originating from somewhere else out of your reach. It's also possible that your receiver node sometimes picks up bounced signals and sometimes a direct one. You could also try to move them a bit apart. What freq. band are you using?

HI Kobuki,

Thank you for your input.  I am not worried about low reception.  What bothers me is the inconsistency of the RSSI. As you can see from the Photo, it was at -45 db, then it dropped to -65 db.  What happened??  How can it be possible?

You may be right that I may have experience "unnoticable" interference from outside of the house.

I will separate the two and observe for awhile longer.

Make sure you are using the settings right so they match the hardware, and that antennas are soldered properly and are straight (not coiled).

Hi Felix,

I am using your default Gateway and Node as is, without any edits.  What other setting do I have to be concerned with?

Please advise?

Thank you,
Donald

Can you please look at the code and read the instructions.
