Title: RFM69W or RFM69HW in moteino weathershield
Post by: gert on May 26, 2017, 09:53:02 PM
Hello All,

How 'meaningful' is it to use RFM69HW-moteino over RFM69W version for a simple weathershield application?
Will there be noticeable gain in distance to the central node?
Is the radio type on the central node significant? I.e. do I have to pair same radio on remote sensor and central node to gain distance? I guess no but would like the experts to confirm. In this case I only assume radio traffic from the sensor to the central node. (No over the air programming required or other traffic going from mothership to sensor)

Thanks,
Gert

7dBm extra in the HW/HCW is very significant, more than quadruple in output power. Obviously that doesnt mean 4 times the distance.
