I have my 2 Moteino RFM69HW next to each other and I am just running the RFM examples struct_send and struct_receive. With the Serial Monitor on the struct_receive Moteino, I find that the Pinging every third pass only gets an occasional ACK. Usually I see the 4-5 ACK...nothing for every ACK...ok!
Is this normal?

Hi!
Check the antennas. The signal level (-91) is too low for reliable connection.
Hi,
That's a great point. I had some other RFM69 sketches running and they showed an RSSI of -29 not -91. I dont know why its showing that low power... I will check.
thanks
jerry
edesio has a good point. Also check your HW settings, and make sure you got the latest lib code from github.
Check this thread as well: https://lowpowerlab.com/forum/index.php/topic,520.0.html
Yes, I did not have high power enable on either. I thought that for testing with the two Moteino antenna's being inches from each other all would be OK. After enabling high power I am getting -28dB and 100% ACK.
Is the low power mode of the RFM69HW so much lower output than the regular output of a RFM69?
No, if you don't tell it it's a HW it will not work correctly. It's telling it to use a certain amplifier path which is not present in the W.
