Title: RFGateway - Hang on Send?
Post by: Harout on March 15, 2023, 02:06:54 AM
I have two RFGateways and I can compile and upload the Struct_send example to both, but after doing so they will not reenumerate as USB Serial devices. Double clicking the reset button gets them back into a state where they will reenumerate and accept a firmware update. Commenting out the code to send a message allows the RFGateway to be communicative over serial (inputs like 'r' and 'i' will produce the expected output). With a multimeter I don't see any continuity between the ground pins and the center antenna pin, and that is the only part I soldered. Any tips?

A quick test on mine with nothing modified in the sketch works just fine with this output:
Sending struct (12 bytes) ...  ok!
[1] ACK TEST   [RX_RSSI:-40] - ACK sent
Sending struct (12 bytes) ...  ok!
Sending struct (12 bytes) ...  ok!

The part about continuity sounds normal but not sure why you'd mention that.

If I compile and upload Struct_send with nothing modified, then there is USB serial device available, and so no output for me to report (the LED doesn't blink either). Commenting out the "radio.sendWithRetry" call allows the rest of the script to run and for the device to be available via the serial monitor. I have the latest versions of the required libraries installed.

I mentioned the solder connections because it was a change from what was received which I presume was tested and working. I don't think anything was damaged during soldering.

So is there anything that comes to mind?

Not really sure what to say. Definitely worked during testing (basic tester sketch to transmit/receive).
You could visually inspect for a soldering issue.
If nothing else, you could send it back and I can take a look, figure out if there's a problem and repair it if feasible, perhaps replace it if I think it was somehow DOA or faulty in any way.

I received your RFGateway boards and upon closer look they have the RFM95 LoRa radios installed on them.
So there is no surprise the Struct_send and receive examples in RFM69 library won't work on them unless the examples are ported to the RF95 library or equivalent.
