Programming other Moteinos with a USB Moteino

Since the USB Moteino has a FTDI USB to serial chip, could it be used to program other (non-UB) Moteinos? Perhaps the ATmega on the USB Moteino could be held in reset while the target Moteino is being programmed so it doesn't get programmed as well. If this would work in theory I'll try adding a programming header connector with some wires to the FTDI chip legs. Of course $14.50 for the FTDI programmer is reasonable and more flexible/useful, but since the FTDI chip is on the USB Moteino it got me thinking if it could be done.

Felix, perhaps a future rev of the USB Moteino could support this via holes that could accept the programming header (might be too big to fit), or a smaller connect that could accept an adapter cable, etc.

I would say no. You would save .. what .. $14.50? To me it's not worth the bother.

Fair enough. If I get a USB Moteino I may try it just for grins. Otherwise I agree the FTDI cable is a better choice.

Right, I mean ... you could always hack something to do something else but in this case, im wondering if its worth the hassle of doing that every time you want to program another Moteino... the Moteino-USB is meant as a base station where it's USB powered... but could be used in other ways too. I'm trying to make it more battery friendly.
