Title: NOOB Help! Giberish displayed in serial monitor
Post by: mmt057 on November 29, 2014, 01:10:12 PM
I am attempting to use the wireless transceivers on my Moteinos for the first time.  I am trying to use the example send and receive sketch.

The lights one the moteinos blink in unison and the receiving moteinos do not blink until the sending Moteino is turned on.  I press ctrl + shift + m and the serial port begins displaying endless lines off giberish.

I have changed the code over at the beginning for the 915mhz.  I am not sure what to do after that.  It seems like they are communicating by their behavior.

Thank your for any help.

Hi,

Perhaps Baud Rate.
Where did you find the sketches?

Cheers
Peter

I am running the sketches provided in the Low Power RFM69 library.  I have tried using the 9600 baud rate and 14400 baud rate in the serial port.  Do I need to change the baud on the sketch to match that?  I will give it a try.  Thank you for the reply.

I am now receiving information over the serial port thank you!

Now I have run into a new problem.  The output seems to repeat "nothing..." from the send serial monitor.  This is what the code looks like that causes the statement:

  Serial.print("Sending struct (");
    Serial.print(sizeof(theData));
    Serial.print(" bytes) ... ");
    if (radio.sendWithRetry(GATEWAYID, (const void*)(&theData), sizeof(theData)))
      Serial.print(" ok!");
    else Serial.print(" nothing...");

Wow,  I just figured out I was powering the wrong one so there was nothing for it to communicate to.  I am going to take my time and try to read through things a little more.
