Title: MoteinoMega and MoteinoM0 - should the serial console work when on a LIPO Bat?
Post by: gregcope on February 12, 2019, 03:42:28 PM
Hi,

Not sure why, but when I plugin a LIPO I seem to lose the serial output on a MoteinoMega (FTDI-USB).  Is this expected?  The MoteinoMega still appears to be running.

Is it safe to do this (for the MoteinoMega and host USB)?

Can this be done with the Moteino M0 (which I am considering moving to as it has more parts, and is more capable?)

The VIN is shared with the USB power, through a diode drop.
See the schematic for MoteinoMEGA-USB here: https://lowpowerlab.com/guide/moteino/design-files/
So it's "almost safe" for the LiPo.
I recommend only connecting the LiPo adter USB is disconnected.
