Hi Guys,
So after messing around for quite some time and trying various things, I still cannot get my Moteino R4 USB to correctly upload sketches. I have and still can properly upload to my Moteino R4 with the FTDI adapter and Arduino Uno boards but the USB board refuses to cooperate. Here's the problem:
Initially: IDE 1.5.8, Board selected Arduino Uno, serial port recognized as COM, no error messages, states "done uploading", leds blink on the board while uploading but after the sketch does not function.
(tried blink and various other example sketches). Also, the serial monitor will not open. When clicked, a serial monitor tab appears on the taskbar but no window appears and it cannot be brought up. It also tends to cause the arduino IDE to freeze.
I tried reinstalling the FTDI drivers both the included files in Arduino/drivers: nothing changed
tried reinstalling FTDI drivers from http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm: nothing changed
retried everything (including FTDI drivers) in 1.0.6: nothing changed
I downloaded the moteino core from https://github.com/LowPowerLab/Moteino/tree/master/MEGA/Core and selected the Moteino board: nothing changed
I started to select different programers and now I get the error:
avrdude: verification error, first mismatch at byte 0x00bd
0x00 != 0x80
avrdude: verification error; content mismatch
Everything I find on the internet points towards the FTDI drivers but I have tried reinstalling them from various sources several times, including after I got that error message and the board is recognized just fine by the computer and IDE so I do not know what else to try.
Any suggestions?
Thank you
Are you using a fairly long usb cable? Try a very short shielded cable. The next thing would be to add 2 x 27ohm resistors on the d+/d- traces and bridge the ftdi rst pin to the ftdi 3.3vout (pins 13 & 14). That's more difficult, if you want I can do that for you, but you need to return it.

Are you using this from a laptop or a desktop system?
I've had issues powering the Moteino via the FTDI cable when running from a laptop - sketchs would load without a problem from the desktop system, but not my laptop until I powered the Moteino from a separate power source.

The shortest cable I have is 1ft which is what I was using before. I think I will return for you to look at and try bridging with the resistors. That way, in case something else were the issue, you'd be able to troubleshoot it better than I would.
Thanks
Ok contact me at lowpowerlab.com/contact on how to return it.
FYI - I have the same problem. The FTDI programming always works perfectly. The USB Moteino fails to program (randomly, part way through programming it using verbose mode) about 9 out or 10 times - then it will work. I have tried multiple cables. I have not yet tried the resistor fixes.
