Title: Moteino and driving LED 7 segment display via SPI
Post by: hexibot43 on January 19, 2014, 10:25:04 AM
Just wanted to run this by everyone before I get started building it.  I want to create a node that is basically a temperature display.  I am planning on using this chip to drive the display.  Are there any pitfalls to adding this to the SPI bus?

Using Pin D7 (7) for CS pin.

Thanks,

Mab

You should be fine. This chip also has a history of Arduino documentation: http://playground.arduino.cc/Main/MAX72XXHardware
You can use any free pin as CS. Just be sure to 'manage' your CS pins.

Personally I prefer I2C devices whenever very high speed comm. is not a concern. It's just easier and you can have a whole bunch of devices using only two pins.

Good luck with the project. Please post about the result :)
