Title: Mailbox Notifier Schematic
Post by: Dean on March 12, 2014, 08:47:03 PM
Can anyone provide me the schematic for the Moteino upgraded mailbox notifier standalone receiver.  I've searched the blog but only see the picture?

Dean,

Connect the LCD to the Moteino as shown on page 5 of this datasheet (https://www.jameco.com/Jameco/Products/ProdDS/2118539.pdf). VSS connects to Moteino GND, VDD connects to Moteino 3v3. Looks like 10k pull-up resistors for the I2C lines.

Power it how you want, for example USB with FTDI adapter. For 9v battery connect to GND and VIN.

That's it.

If you need backlighting for the LCD you can run that off the Moteino 3v3 as well since it can supply 40mA and the backlight needs ~20mA. I would only do backlight if powered with USB or AC adapter as it will drain a battery quickly. (The LCD without backlight only uses 1mA)

Ah sorry Dean, you were asking about the standalone receiver. I don't have a schematic for that but what Kris mentioned is pretty much spot on. The LCD is connected through i2c and has a hard wired backlight which can be PWM driven for adjusting the amount of light, or can be left off. The LCD is a 3.3V one so it can work off the Moteino output. Power the whole thing from any 3.3-9V source, a 9V battery works well for temporary "check my snail mail" scenarios, but won't last very long if left on continuously.
