Title: Last Hope - Fried Moteino R2
Post by: |MeRoBo| on February 12, 2015, 07:36:44 AM
Hi,

I would like to know if you had any ideas that could selvage my Moteino R2,
After a year I finally got to get my rPI running as a gateway, and in my haste I accidentally put 11.1V into the 3.3v pin. This illuminated the LED ( no protection diode) and when I smelt dust burning ( no smoke ) I immediately removed the battery.

Is there any component other than the core chip that could be burnt to protect the core?

When uploading a sketch it returns the following.
=========================================
Native lib Version = RXTX-2.1-7
Java lib Version   = RXTX-2.1-7
Binary sketch size: 8,850 bytes (of a 32,256 byte maximum)
avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding

I know this is a long shot, and embarrassing ( don't play with electronics while watching Hurt Locker ;)

Regards

No protection diode will help when you put 11V on the atmega supply rail ;)
If you indeed did that, the MCU is fried and maybe the regulator as well, and in fact some caps might be damaged as well, back then the caps I used were not as high grade/voltage rating as now.

I get 3.3v out so the regulator is ok but no life on the other side. Thanks anyway.
