Title: how to mount a moteino?
Post by: mk on February 06, 2014, 01:27:42 PM
Just curious what solutions folks have come up with for physically mounting a moteino inside of a project box?  How do you attach it, insulate, cool, connect up ftdi, power etc.  I was going to try sugru on the corners to an abs plastic box and then run the ftdi out via wires to a connector punched through the side.

I've not seen them on moteino's but you can use the "stackable headers" used on arduino shields.

I mean how to mount the moteino itself to a box or something.  Such as a Radio Shack ABS project box or similar.  The headers are for connecting other electronic components.

The headers are a way to do both, if you use Velcro on the flat side of the headers you can make it so you can remove the moteino as needed provided it's not in a high vibration area. The bonus is you can leave the pins long and use them for making connections, or you can cut them off, your choice.

There's many possible ways to do it. A few that come to mind are sugru, or make your own "oogoo" (http://www.instructables.com/id/How-To-Make-Your-Own-Sugru-Substitute/), velcro, side PCB holders. You can use epoxy to coat a Moteino to protect from the elements. You can design a case to fit the Moteino + battery such that you don't have to imobilize them in the box ... I've done exactly that in the MotionMote which is due to be released soon as well. Many many ways ... just use your imagination :)
