One of my Moteino R4 USB is cannot be seen by my Ubuntu Laptop. I have sent sketches to it many times in the past with this laptop as well as another computer. I can see a different Moteino R4 USB just fine using the same cable and the same port.
The last Sketch sent to it was the test Node.ino The antenna light flashes cheerily as you might expect.
I thought I might try a hardware reset to no sketch. Is there a way to do this?
Short RST with GND on the side headers.
Yes that did a reset but did not clear the memory to no sketch. The lsusb shows the Moteino

I reinstalled the OS Ubuntu 14.04.1 to ensure it was not and OS problem.
Still cannot send a sketch to the device. Tried to get putty to connect no luck under the serial linking
Just purchased another Moteino USB.
We know we need 2 to talk, and the bad one is questionable.
If we get it to work - well I will have even more fun.
The new Moteino R5-USB has some important changes: 27 ohm resistors on the D+/- lines from USB, and the FTDI RST pullup. This should add stability for longer USB cables. This was added as a result of this post (https://lowpowerlab.com/forum/index.php/topic,789.msg4920.html#msg4920).
I never had issues uploading to any MoteinoUSBs prior to that either. I use short shielded cables (6-8" long), but longer cables of all kinds also always worked for me. In most cases where there was a problem the cable was an issue, or the Moteino was bricked and had to be rebootloaded.
What is a rebootloaded? I would like to try that to recover the device. BTW the cable I have been using is about 3 feet long and shielded.
Reloaded with fuses and the bootloader.
Does the unit flash the LED when you short RST with GND?
No. It is flashing because of the node sketch sent to it before it stopped working. When I do a grd / rst short it stops the flashing. As soon as the short is released it starts to flash again.
Ok that means the bootloader is fine and the unit is not bricked. You may have a USB cable issue (see this post (https://lowpowerlab.com/forum/index.php/topic,789.msg4920.html#msg4920)). It may be the case that adding the 2 inline resistors will fix your issue. You can return it to me and I will do that at no cost to you (unless there is other damage to the board that causes this). Or you can try using a short shielded cable that may resolve it.
I am away from my shop for the next week so will be back at you after that.
Thanks
