Do I need an FCC certification for the hopeRF module?
When it's required? Are the moteinos FCC certified?


I just don't clearly understand that, hope someone explain that.

For 915mhz there are fewer restrictions. So it's probably a better choice, but different places might have different rules.

First: I'm not a lawyer and my opinions are not legal advice. If you are just playing with them at home, I don't think anyone cares. If you sell any end-user product in the USA including a Moteino with HopeRF module, you will need to get your device certified to meet FCC requirements under whichever part of the regulations apply to your product, such as Part 15.

I assume a bare HopeRF module, or a Moteino as sold here does not need to be FCC-certified because it is considered a "component" rather than a finished consumer product. (eg. you have to solder on the antenna wire and connectors yourself).
