My front steps LED strips are powered by a hefty 12v power supply.
I noticed this thread:

What is a good way to power a Moteino from a 12v supply?

The Moteino will be controlling a (TBD) PSM attenuator on the 12v to the
LED strips.

Just use a LM7805 to bring it down to 5V, or something like that...
