Title: [ extending MOTEINO to access raw modem signals ]
Post by: texane on August 26, 2014, 10:34:44 AM
Hi guys,

First of all, congratulations for the selection of Moteino by the Hackaday Prize jury,
it is well deserved. I am developping OOKLONE, a 433MHz frame cloner:

The prototype currently relies on Moteino, which fits very well. Currently, I have to
wire manually the RFM69 DIO1 and DIO2 pins to some ATMEGA328 pins to access
the modem raw signals:

It would be convenient if the Moteino board was extended so that manual wiring is not
required. Do you think of a solution for doing so, eventually integrated in a future version
of the Moteino ?

Thanks for your ideas !

Hi Fabien,
Thank you, I am humbled but happy that The Moteino Framework made it in TOP50 :)
And a big thanks for all those that supported it!

I thought your project was very cool also. When I designed Moteino I needed to make as many IO available as possible. Some people wanted even more and that's when I started thinking of making a larger board (the MoteinoMEGA). So for that reason I did not connect anything custom to the atmega328 pins. Another reasoning is that while you would prefer DIO1 and DIO2, others may prefer something else, and it's impossible to meet everyone's need. I think soldering 2 wires is not too bad. In fact anyone using Moteino will eventually do some soldering because of its general purpose nature. Any custom project probably requires a custom or tweaked PCB to meet that particular project's requirements. I hope this makes sense.
You could always make some Moteinos using the Eagle files, that have the DIO pins routed to your required atmega pins ;)
