Any thought to when (or if) a mighhat will be available for the B+?

what do you mean?
B+ hasn't change, I will assume mighhat won't either

The B+ has additional headers for POE. This is the brand new Pi3 that was just released a couple of days ago. The POE requires a specific hat that will prevent the current MightyHat from being used in conjunction with POE. Also, will the mightyhat be able to provide power backup while the new Pi is deriving power from the POE?

The POE header is separate and is only used if you actually power the board over POE directly.
This is a useful addition, but it would imply that your board power is 100% controlled via POE and its power source.
So any power control should be at the other end where your Power (over Ethernet) is coming from.
The MightyHat works on a different principle - it's a IPS that provides power from USB and falls back to battery/boost when USB power is lost.
So if you don't use POE (and the dedicated POE Hat) then MightyHat is not affected.

If you power your Pi 3 B+ with POE then all you need is a Moteino/MoteinoUSB connected to your Pi to act as a gateway.

Felix -

Thanks, I understand the differences, I am just thinking power loss which is where the mighty hat helps. If I lose power to the POE (ie to the switch), I would still want my Pi running just like it does now. I guess I could buy a UPS for my switch, but that is a lot more expensive and a lot heavier than a MightyHat :-)

If you can figure out a way to power the MightyHat with 5V coming from your POE Hat, then I guess that would work just fine.
I'm assuming their POE hat simply converts the POE standard voltage (up to 48V) down to a manageable 5V. There are simple POE splitters/converters (both at source and at load side) which you can buy for your Pi end (which would essentially do the same as your POE hat) and then feed the MHat with that 5V regulated POE output, and plug the ethernet as before on your Pi.

Ah yes, that would be a way to do it without using the POE Pi hat.....good idea!

Sometimes we cannot see the forest for the trees!!
