Title: Mighty hat battery uk
Post by: phill on January 03, 2017, 09:21:18 AM
Any suggestions where I can source a suitable battery in the UK for the MightyHat?

Not sure what to suggest but : it will have to have the 2.0 pitch JST connector and wired with the correct polarity (or else switch the wiring in the connector when you get it).
If it proves a pain to find the correct connector, then just get one without, and you can solder the wires directly in parallel with the JST connector in the provided pin holes, again very important to match the polarity or else the MH could be damaged. The onboard slide switch cuts power from the battery and is convenient if you want to "disconnect" the battery when it is soldered, without removing the soldering.

Hmm, just thought I have one of these https://www.olimex.com/Products/Power/BATTERY-LIPO6600mAh/ (https://www.olimex.com/Products/Power/BATTERY-LIPO6600mAh/) for my Lime 2! Does that look like it would be suitable? Obviously I'd need to check the polarity!

P.s If you've not heard of the Lime 2, its basically an OSHW RPi, but with native gigabit and and sata!

That looks good, the connector might even fit.

I tried it out last night. The connector looked like it fitted, and brute force and ignoorance made it fit!  ;)

It didn't burst in to flames at least, and appeared to be charging.

Though I had trouble programming the MightyHat from my RPi which I eventually resolved. Hopefully I'll get the whole lot working and controlling my Pi tonight!

Great, as long as its a 3.7v lipo and its not wired like below, it should work:
