Title: Does mightyhat provide enough power raspberry pi and display
Post by: Reck_law on February 19, 2016, 10:48:57 AM
Hi

I am thinking about getting the mightyhat to use with a pi and the pi touch screen and am curious to know if it will provide power and control for both.

Although depending on the LCD display and power requirements, it might be possible, I would recommend not to rely on MHat or MBoost to drive a pi + display from LiPo. It's really designed to drive the Pi reliably and not a whole suite of other variable or unpredictable loads. As a rule of thumb I would not continually try to pull more than 5v (boosted).
The problem is that in normal conditions you would not really do that when just running the Pi by itself. I mean I guess it really depends on the display and how much current it needs at 5V. If it's 2-300ma it might just be fine. You have to remember the Lipo voltage decreases and the booster cannot keep the same output load under a depleting battery condition.
