ok to put USART0 to sleep?

Hi, I use serial to program and debug my two moteinos (by USB on one and FTDI adapter on the other).  My application in production does not use serial, so I was thinking about turning off the power to the USART.  The 328p spec sheet shows the Power Reduction Register (PRR)  Bit 1

I want to turn off power to the USART to improve battery life.  My application doesn't use it in production and the spec sheet says it is enabled at the start (Power reduction register has an initial value of 0 for the PRUSART0 bit).  My development environment uses the serial port for upload and debug.  My concern was that if I turned off the USART power, I would loose the ability to upload in my development environment.   Hope that makes sense.  Thanks....jim

Sure, why not. You would regain the USART during the FTDI/reboot when you attempt to upload a new firmware using the bootloader.

I can say I have never specifically done that though. If there are any power reductions to be had, those would belong in the LowPower library.
