Folks,

I need to design a pcb with a rectangular cutout in the middle, a fairly large one 30mm x 18mm. I have a couple of questions...

1. Is it ok just to  draw in the rectangle in the dimensions layer, is that sufficient for the fab house ?
2. Do the fab house have a problem cutting a big hole in the middle of the board ?

Thanks in advance.

I think you're good. But you will have to check with your fab to be sure. Each fab has their own rules and expectations.

Just as an example, here are some guidelines if you're using OSHPark: http://support.oshpark.com/support/solutions/articles/134889-internal-cutouts-and-slots

I put some slots in a board from them for a weather shield I did last year and was happy with the results. Picture here: https://lowpowerlab.com/forum/index.php/topic,236.msg2175.html#msg2175
