Strange Behavior - Ack

Hi,

I am using two moteinos RFM69HW with 1/4 monopole antenna. I am also using the basic gateway/node sketches and when both are connected through an FTDI interface to usb, every thing works as expected with the ack being exchanged normally. When i unplug the node from the FTDI and plug it directly to a 9 volts battery(8.99 volts on fluke), the gateway do not receive the ack from node.

You have FTDI + 9V battery?
Can you explain how they are both connected to the Moteino?
