Z-Wave Compatible?

Hi Community,

i'm new in Programming Microcontroller and have a Questions. I had have a look at google but didn't find an answer.
Can i use the Moteino for Z-Wave (868 MHz TX an RX)

The short answer from all I've researched is: no.
Mainly because Z-wave is proprietary (not open source) and you would have to OEM it from the zwave alliance to be able to do anything zwave related.

thank you for your fast reply, as far as i know z-wave can be used by everyone. You only have to be a member of the alliance to proof your products as official z-wave compatible.

At first i'll use a raspberry pi with the razberry z-wave module and the OpenRemote 2.0 Software. This is a sollution from vendors which arent members of the z-wave alliance as far as i know. But the rasperry pi with the razberry module isn't very small, so i'll looking for an much smaller sollution.

The problem is the RF stack is not open. You have to be a member AND buy their hardware. IOW you can't do whatever you want, which is not interesting to me. For instance OpenRemote is just a software stack which interacts with their products. Someone else told me that Zwave didn't work very well, reliability issues. But that's just one experience. I am not interested in them because I don't want to deal with their proprietary stack and I don't want to be a member of anything, nor pay royalties. But again, that's just me.
