SwitchMote relay replacement

Hi

I needed to control a hot water cylinder (3kW) max so the current requirement is well over 5A which this realay is limited to . I was wondering how difficult is to swap to the omron 20A relay given here and if any extra circuitry is needed :

according to the datasheet it has the same contact as the 5A version SPST-NO (1 Form A)

Hi,
The coil current is much larger so you might need to swap the gate resistor for the BJT driving the relay, on board the SwitchMote.
Also the footprint of this relay is different, it's a larger relay. 1-form A refers to the circuit not the physical layout.

This relay also comes in a variant that has TOP contacts which might be better, but you want to really know what you're doing since the feed current in SwitchMote comes through the terminal and that feeds the relay as well. Make sure to check the schematic of SwitchMote before you endeavor in this. Having said all this I cannot endorse changing the original relay since the traces on the PCB are not rated for 20A, although they might support 20A (they are on top and bottom as well).
