PowerShield + IR diode

Iam currently thinking to use a Moteino Power Shield for a "IR-Box"

Do you think it is possible to operate an Infrared Diode with a Moteino and the PowerShield out of AA Battery?
Is the Power Shield able to drive the IR diode?

A second question ob the Power shild....why did you do a change from TPS61220 to LT3525?

The power shield gives you 5V, that is what it is for. The lower the input Voltage source the lower the efficiency but it should be able to drive the Moteino + IR LED from a AA, I would think.
I switched to LTC3525 because it was more stable.
