Question about SwitchMote threading in plated holes

I'm designing a PCB for a small home project where I need a threaded mounting hole in a PCB (light weight - no real load on it).  My nominal plan was to have the board house drill a small pilot hole and then I'll drill that out to fit a press fit, threaded nut (something like this).

But I noticed that the (very cool) SwitchMote has a threaded, plated hole for mounting the cover plate to it and was wondering how that was done.  Is it a standard plated through hole which is tapped?  Or are the threads cut just by putting the screw into it?

I'm not sure there are tapped, it looks like the spacer itself is tapped and the two PCBs are held together by fitting a screw in both ends, but I could be wrong.

Sorry - not the PCB mounting holes.  I'm talking about the outer 2 holes in the LED PCB that is used to secure the plastic light switch cover plate.  This one:

According to this picture you make the threads yourself.

Yep the first time you screw it it, it threads the plated hole. The only thing to mind is keeping it fairly perpendicular, the hole itself helps pilot the screw in somewhat.
