mailbox notifier range

can the mailbox notifier (motion mote) be placed at the rear of the mailbox  or does it need to be placed at the front on the door in order to work?

Mine is placed at the back of the mailbox with the antenna sticking out the back of the mailbox.

It might still work either way,
But as a rule of thumb - the more towards your gateway/receiver antenna the sender antenna is placed, the better.
