Title: Driveway sensor
Post by: vk3jap on October 09, 2017, 10:54:01 PM
So my Mum purchased a driveway sensor from DakotaAlart.. nice unit, around $500 and showed good promise..BUT..turns out it's useless. So I want to build something with moteino to do the trick. Ultimately she just wants to know if someone walks or drives through her gate. Range is not an issue, Ive tested that. But I'm thinking about what sensor will cover a 12 ft area..plus battery life etc..? Solar to charge or??

Any ideas..? Does motionmote do all this already..just need to make weatherproof etc.?

MotionMote detects motion in its field of view (infrared differential).
Not sure that's appropriate to put in a driveway, unless temperature is very stable when nothing moves in the FOV.

Do you have any power there?  Sounds like those IR beam garage door safety sensors might meet the requirement.
