Current Ranger (fw v1.1.2) turns off after 20 hours [fixed in fw v1.1.3]

Hello,
I deactivated the auto-off-function, but the current ranger turned off after 20 hrs of being active and measuring current. I use a 2500mAh battery, so that should be enough to fulfill the 24hr test I want to do. Any explanations or reasons for that? How can I solve that?
Thanks!

Felix

Did you deactivate through the firmware (menu 'a' option)?
Was your battery full before the test and did you check the battery voltage at the end to make sure it was not the battery?

mabox

Yes, I used the menu 'a' option.
The battery was fully charged before the test. After the current ranger turned off, I turned it on again and it worked again for 16-20 hrs.

Not sure if someone else has done such long testing, but I will have to do some testing with the latest firmware to try and determine if this is coming from firmware or if it's something triggered by hardware.

I  received my CR fromWelectron a few weeks ago with the largest battery option. After charging I ran it to see how long it would last. I too noticed that it periodically turned off, I cannot remember exactly how often, maybe once a day but cannot be exact, sorry. I will be more observant and report back here as soon as possible. Ok, I will try to replicate and investigate this problem.
I will ask, if you can, to verify if this happens no matter how you use the CR, or does it require a specific mode of operation? Or just let me know how you configure it, to be able to reproduce.
I am assuming firmware v1.1.2.

Mike G

I will fully charge it and leave it on with no external connections and let you know hopw it behaves.
Yes it was 1.1.2 but I have made one or two minor mods to the code and I cannot remember whether these mods were installed prior to the duration test or after :-[  Mike G

I was able to reproduce, though not able to determine the time it took to turn off but between 12-22 hours.
I am now retrying with a firmware mod, before I start hardware tweaks.

Felix

After a second day of testing, my CR turned off after around 21 hours.
I observed when it happened, and it was simply a auto-off timeout (with the buzzing), and NOT a sudden shutoff.
Which is very good news, it means there's a logical bug in the auto-off routine and I will be able to fix and release a new firmware version.
Stay tuned.

Felix

UPDATE: It appears my fix worked so while I continue to keep that unit ON for another few days to make sure it's all good, I will prepare a firmware release and post it on the blog soon.

Felix

There is now a new firmware change that should fix this problem, R3 fw 1.1.3.

Just write down the old calibration values, then put the unit in bootloader mode (double tap RST) backup your CURRENT.uf2.
Drop the new CurrentRanger_R3_1.1.3.UF2.
Then in the serial console over USB and adjust the calib values to what they were, done.
