Title: NES Power switch occasionally reboots
Post by: ctamayo on August 29, 2019, 11:17:30 AM
Hey friends,

I'm making a retropie system housed in an original NES case. A problem that I'm having is with the latching power button. It occasionally reboots rather than shuts down. It seems to be an issue with the NES buttons, as when I test with a different latching button, it works fine. I've used 2 different NES power switches and they do the same thing.

Any ideas of where I'm going wrong? Thanks!!

I've attached an (admittedly not very useful) pic of the system.

Yes, most likely the switches.
The long press should shutdown, the short press a reboot (on ATRaspi 2.8 or older).
If that long shutdown unlatches before the shutdown time is satisfied, (but after the reboot time is satisfied) then it will do a reboot.

Thanks for the response!

Apologies, I didn't mention which version of the ATXRaspi this is. I'm actually using the R2.8. When using the latch mode, does it matter how long I press the button? I assumed it just responded to whether the button was depressed or not.

Same thing applies. Rebooting is actually not disabled in LATCH mode. You can reboot even with a latching button (a short depress and re-press).
That you can test with another latching (or SPDT) button and it works, indicates the NES button is not consistent.
