I plan to power my Pi based project with a 6xAA battery pack.  Can I feed that directly to the ATXRaspi or should I put a UBEC in between?

Thanks.

Not sure what UBEC is but the ATXRaspi requires standard 5V, the same as the Pi.
One thing to note is that depending on the quality of the wiring between the ATXRaspi and your Pi (which act as extra resistance in the power path to the Pi), there might be noise or a voltage drop.
To reduce that to a minimum you should use good quality wiring, the best is to solder them, the USB option and cabling that LPL offers also are a pretty good out of box option.

UBEC = Universal Battery Elimination Circuit.

A 5v version will accept input from 5v dc - approx 20v dc and regulate it down to a constant 5v.

Thanks for the quick reply.
