ATXRaspi and PiTFT [solved - wrong wiring]

Just got my ATXRaspi and set it up on my Pi that has a PiTFT 2.8" Touch Screen. The ATXRaspi powers up and down fine but I loose the console on the TFT on boot up. I never get a login prompt. I have to log in via ssh to do anything and the Python application that will operate the GUI on the TFT will not start with the ATXRaspi connected and the script running.

Any helpful tips on how to get this going?

How much power does the PiTFT use and how is it powered?

zkmiller

It is powered from the Rpi via GPIO header.  With full back light it is supposed to draw about 100mA.

Have you verified the ATXRaspi pins are not interfering with the PiTFT pins?
Can you try it without the PiTFT, does that work as expected?

zkmiller

It doesn't appear to be a hardware problem. It looks like the Raspian start up script stops output to the terminal (TFT) right after it starts shutdowncheck.sh. The application I want to start automatically should be started by cron. But it appears as if the output to the TFT is turned off.  I still see text but nothing else happens. When I ssh in and try to start the python application it errors saying that the video system has not been initialized. It appears that the rest of the initialization did not complete..

If I comment out the  line '/etc/shutdowncheck.sh &' in rc.local every thing works normal (except ATXRaspi, of course).

Unfortunately not having a PiTFT I am not sure how to advise you. It does sound like everything is running fine on the hardware side and you have it hooked up OK.
There must be some conflict in the startup sequence. I don't see why the script would interfere with anything else, many things are started up at boot, and the script does not stop anything else from being started.

I did some more checking, as you suggested, on the pins used by the PiTFT and found that pins 24 (GPIO8) and 26 (GPIO7) are used by the PiTFT. So I selected a different pair of GPIO pins - 16 (GPIO 23) and 18 (GPI0 24). It all works now. However, I still get Pi power on when I initially plug in the ATXraspi. You mentioned that shouldn't happen. Is there a cause for this that I can fix?

Thanks for the help,

It should not power ON automatically, only from the button action. The button has to be momentary, OFF when not depressed. Static might also be a cause on the ATXRaspi button input.

Well, I looked everything over and it appears to be connected just like the ATXRaspi guide. I am using the power button I ordered from you as well. Where could this 'static' be coming from.  The problem appears when I have all the components laid out on the bench or installed in an enclosure. I am using a 5v 2A power supply.

Felix

Can you verify the button is connected correctly?
It should be OFF when not depressed. Check for continuity with a multimeter, should be ON only when depressed. Those 2 wires are connected to the far left connections where silkscreen says "BTN". The other 2 are the LED inside the button.
If that is all good then I don't know what else to suggest. You could return it if you want me to take a look at it again, but it was tested after SMT assembly.

Thanks for the help. It appears that I did wire the switch wrong :P. It seems to be working properly now.
