RFM69(HW) on AtTiny84

Did anyone get this working. I am trying to do a home automation system, but I want everything to be wireless. I love the AtTiny84 and it would be perfect to use it because it is cheap and has enough pins to have a shift register on it & the RFM69(HW) (I THINK). Anyone tried this before?

Others tried RFM69 + Attiny chips and there are some threads if you search for "attiny". But I don't think they were very successful since the attinys are so limited in resources.
I still don't understand what is the real benefit of attinys over the popular atmega328p (other than saving $1).
