One issue I see with my mailbox notifier (which is motion activated rather than reed switched) is the mailbox can be left partially closed, or the mailman can spend a rather long time with it.
With the motion sensor both those issues are not really a problem, if it's open more than 1 minute it will send another packet so that's ok, if it's left partially closed, the motion sensor will in most cases not trigger again as long as it's not wide open. For the reed switch the partially closed door can be an issue. Just thought i'd share a few scenarios I've seen in 2-3 years of use.
